This is my first marimba solo I composed. Before this I typically spent my time composing for piano, as well as some ideas for percussion ensemble but not a lot was ever written down. This solo, I felt deserved to be written down since it has been a goal of mine for a long time to finally write a solo for the marimba, my favorite instrument of the percussion family. Off road jeep games free download for pc. I have recently been studying marimba solos including Rhythm Song by Paul Smadbeck, Ghanaia by Matthias Schmitt, and Frogs by Keiko Abe, and listening to iconic marimba solos such as the well-known Velocities by Joseph Schwantner, and Moon Chasers my Mark Ford. I think my main source of inspiration to write this piece was from percussionist Adam Tan, the host of the percussion show, 'The Studio' on youtube. He is, of course, a composer himself, and has written three pieces for solo marimba and one marimba duet and one marimba-vibraphone duet. His compositions, all have a clear theme of what the message is and how it relates to the title of the piece. I certainly tried to do my best with this as I composed each section of 'Sunrain.' The introduction symbolizes the the sun behind the trees as the a storm starts brewing in. The first opening theme, of course, is the rain falling mixed with the cheerful sunlight creaking through the clouds. The rolled interlude before the middle section can be thought of as the 'calm before the storm,' with the soothing, changing voices. The pattern that starts the middle section finally develops into the climax of the piece, the thunderstorm. The piece ends of with a recap of the first theme and a coda with attacking chords that rap up the piece with an energetic finale. The piece is written for 4.0 octave marimba or larger.
